Ashray Akruti !

Ashray Akruti is a registered nonprofit, non religious organization working for hearing impaired children and normal children without hearing impairment from underprivileged backgrounds. Established in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh in 1996, Ashray Akruti runs a school with a residential facility for hearing impaired children. Ashray Akruti started with five children and now caters to the educational needs of 163 children. Since our inception in 1996, more than 75 hearing-impaired children have been integrated into mainstream schools and colleges. Recently its started Multimedia training Centre for children. Hearing-impaired children from outside Hyderabad avail residential facilities provided by Ashray Akruti.

The organization follows unique techniques in imparting Special education to the Hearing Impaired, the main feature being that the children are encouraged to SPEAK through Oral Aural method of teaching. Mothers take active participation in the class room for the effective development of the child. The focus is to enhance the residual hearing powers of the children thus encouraging the children to speak rather than rely on sign language for communication. The organization also caters to the educational needs of the slum children by clubbing them with the Hearing Impaired children.

Vision

Empowering hearing-impaired and underprivileged children to use their innate capacities to reach an optimum level of independence- both personally and professionally; thus transforming a large group of people depending on lifelong support from the State into a group of healthy, positive contributors to the economy.
